Abstract
The scientific objectives of the MONOCIR-Leg 2 cruise in the Indonesian Archipelago are to decipher the climatic and oceanic variability associated with the connection between Pacific and Indian ocean through the Indonesian archipelago (Indonesian Through flow, IT).
The cores collected are located on the path of the Indonesian Throuhflow on the western margin of the Pacific Ocean (close to HalmaHera) and through the Makassar strait.
The main objectives are to study:
- past variability of the strength of the Indonesian Throughflow at different time scales,
- relationships between low sea levels stands and reduced activity of the Indonesian Throughflow,
- phase relationship between the surface and deep circulation and forcings as well as with teleconnections with high latitudes,
- evolution of precipitation regime on the islands and connection with the monsoon and ENSO variability.
