Abstract

The TAYLOR-CO project aims at evaluating the blue ice field of Taylor Glacier, Antarctica, as a potential sampling site for Δ17O of CO, a direct proxy of the past oxidative capacity of the atmosphere. This site provides a horizontal stratigraphic sequence covering the Holocene and the last deglaciation. We will assess on the field the quality of the CO mixing ratio record preserved in Taylor Glacier, piggy-backing on the field logistic of the ongoing ANT-NSF 0839031 project led by Pr. Jeffrey Severinghaus. If the CO record appears to be well preserved, this project may also provide the first ever CO record over the last deglaciation.
